Our Gallery

The tapestry, interpretation and period artefacts.

Our Gallery

The Last Invasion Tapestry was commissioned as a permanent legacy as part of the Invasion Bicentenary commemorations in 1997. It tells unique and fascinating story of the last invasion of mainland Britain, and took almost 78 local people four years to complete.

It is similar in form and shape to the Bayeux tapestry, and like the Bayeux tapestry, is 100 feet (30.5 metres) long. Located in a purpose built Gallery within Fishguard Library, the Last Invasion Tapestry exhibition also features items and films, where you can discover more about the bicentenary events, the last invasion and the making of the Tapestry.

Although the tapestry is the star of the show, there is lots more to see in the Gallery and the adjacent Audio Visual room. There are several display cases, with many different artefacts, some date back to the 18th century when the invasion took place.

The Audio Visual Room

There is an audio visual room at the bottom of the tapestry gallery which contains several interesting pictures and a map of the invasion. There is also a video of the making of the tapestry. The audio visual room can also be used as a lecture room or classroom, it seats up to 32 people. The room has interactive white board, wifi, video and TV.

Bookings for the Audio Visual Room are taken by Fishguard Library . Please call them on 01437 776638
